Root. Encounter. Dialogue.
We find two men gaze from their roots, who delve into them as a way of relating to their environment. Thy arrive with their own origins and essence, they present us with an encounter; they converse… Dialogue is not always easy, it is constructed from listening, respect… Sometimes it brings us closer, other times it pushes us away, sometimes it puts pressure on us… and it also hugs us.
'Yarin' presents us with an intercultural encounter, in which the Basque dancer Jon Maya and the flamenco dancer Andrés Marín, accompanied by live music by Julen Achiary, meet one another on the basis of an honest dialogue, which shows us their differences and their desire to share via these a common path towards tomorrow.
Kukai bases its work on traditional Basque dance; proposing encounters with other dance styles and forms of understanding the art. In this way, Kukai creates contemporary shows based on traditional Basque dance, carrying out its own creations and collaborations with prestigious choreographers.
Among its works, the most popular are the shows created with Tanttaka Teatroa and the collaborations undertaken with different choreographers: Cesc Gelabert, Israel Galvan, Jone San Martín (The Forsythe Ballet), La Intrusa Danza, Marcos Morau / La Veronal, Sharon Fridman...
The company has been awarded numerous prizes in its career. Those that stand out are the Max Prizes for the Performing Arts as Best Show (2017), Best Dance Line-up (2015, 2017), Best Musical Composition (2015), Best Costumes (2017)… And numerous prizes and special mentions at prestigious festivals such as the Huesca International Theatre and Dance Fair, TAC Valladolid, Umore Azoka, Donostia Theatre Awards…
