Desªnuda is a suspended contemporary dance show about the knot of and surrender to the naked void. Interacting with a floating structure and the pendular elements therein, this interdisciplinary piece delves into the weightless body and multiple corporalities faced with the strangulation of a knot and the instability it causes. In Desªnuda, we find a knotted body in search of the loose end.
The company was founded in 2020 when Maitane Sarralde felt the urge to explore new approaches to dance with a harness and the narrative intrinsic to the dynamics and elements which govern dance “off the ground” and bodies which move without regard for the difference between being on the ground or in the air.
To do so, she put together a team with a common vision, with whom she produced her first creation: Desªnuda. Desªnuda premiered in 2022. It’s a one-person piece of contemporary suspended dance about the knot of and surrender to the naked void.
This show emerged out of a search for new forms of exploring dance with a harness and the dynamics which govern this. The pendulum, the fall, weightlessness and suspension. Starting from the material and the elements with which they work, a common discourse is generated around the knot and the “pending” elements. She received a mention from the Umore Azoka'22 jury for “the creativity, research and innovation that she presents in her artistic proposal.” It was a show recommended by the Circus commission of the Spanish Theatre Network and has also in the Puncat'23 programme dance catalogue. After the process of her first creation, Maitane found the dialogue between rope and words crucial. She also began to delve deeper into the mechanics and systems of rigging as a creative tool in which she can reformulate the skeletal structure of space and the possibilities of aerial bodies and elements.
In 2023, the company produced its second project, Madre Perla. A contemporary piece which also incorporates wall dance. A co-production between Magalie Lanriot and Maitane Sarralde, accompanied by Blanca Arrieta. Both pieces were co-produced by Getxo City Council and the Basque Government.
