HITAZ ORHOIT is a work created in memory of the invisible victims of barbarism and unreason, represented for the most part by women, forgotten for centuries within the shadowy folds of history. A subliminal piece with light and its wake as a mantle of spiritual protection for the soul which is reborn from its own ashes. A whole world of unwritten allegories, in which, by diving vertically within - and this is our way of creating - the negative is transformed into dual ascesis and positive catharsis of the creative act itself, which makes us not forget precisely the brutality of so aberrant horror.
In HITAZ ORHOIT, we understand gestures as a dance, internalising its empathetic action, encoding an articulated plot on a non-verbal body language in which acting is “being” and therefore means “being” - not “appearing” - in contrast to the old outdated code of “seeing, hearing and remaining silent.” In short, it is a choreographic representation aimed at the perception of the senses, in which the dancer knows how to draw their shadow in the air, between the sensuality of movement and the emotion of gestures, taking dance as the only and authentic protagonist of the work.
Pioneering ensemble searching for new directions in Basque dance. Faustino Aranzabal has been Artistic Director of the company since June 1993.
Taking tradition as a source of inspiration for creation, it offers a theatre of innovative dance, creating over thirty choreographic works among which the following productions stand out: Sokadantzan, Besta Berri, Marixe, Sehaska, Ayres for the theatre, Buba eta Bubu and Hala ere.
All shows performed in diverse formats, thereby offering a varied catalogue aimed at both children’s and adult audiences.
