It is said that in the West, time is counted, measured, bought, sold, planned, organised; it is an objective asset, independent of human beings, that we use to do things, but we almost always lack it. On the other hand, in Africa time is experienced, it is possessed, it is carried out; it is a subjective and inherent asset of human beings, which is inhabited and is almost never missing.
The fact that we are born in a specific place in the world inevitably marks the notion we have of time, and although nothing is immovable, we will hardly be able to get rid of that first acquired notion. Time can be experienced in many ways, even being a slave to it; but what cannot be denied, and this is valid for any corner of the world, is the power that dance gives us, regardless of its origin, gender or condition, to experience time in an absolute present.
Asier Zabaleta founded the ERTZA company in 2004 with the goal of opening up a new space in which to create through the interaction of different artistic disciplines such as dance, theatre, the plastic arts and audio-visual language.
The works by ERTZA pose questions about human and social contradictions. They invite the public, in a playful and aesthetic way, to take up an active position in the face of what they are seeing, and to reflect on current everyday topics.
Since ERTZA was founded, Asier has presented his performances in countries such as China, the Philippines, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Israel, Russia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal.
